Thumbs up for Performabuilt

I just got done installing a Level 2 Performabuilt Transmission with their 3200 converter for a guy here locally.

It drove beautifully and shifted just as well.

I have a lvl 2 installed in my car with only a test drive by the installer so far. So far so good but it only has a dyno and a few miles on it.

Frank has been good to work with.

We just installed a Level 2 from Performabuilt and so far it's great. Car weight is 4100 lbs race weight and it trapped 126 mph with the old stock tranny and a mismatched (slipping) torque convertor. We've switched the convertor to match a turbo application and I'll have new times soon. The car has not been dynoed beyond 5 psi (480rwhp). Boost is now 13 psi.

10.89 at 133 mph Here's an update. I took it to the track last weekend with the new tranny, and the new Edge convertor (custom for use with the turbos), and the car ran 10.89 at 133 mph (11.5 psi boost). I did 10 runs and the tranny worked perfectly.

level 2 here a i've been running it for a couple months now and its holding up to my power pretty well. shifts really nice, and the fluid temps seem to run cooler than the stock one.

Transmission: A4 with a 3500 stall

Dear Frank,

Approximately 1 year ago I noticed that my transmission was not staying locked in when it was a warm day but would go in and out.  I took it to a transmission shop on two occasions and they could not diagnose the problem.

This year the transmission started acting the same way.  I took it to another transmission shop that said they would be able to fix the problem.  After driving for an hour they took the Suburban for a drive with a computer attached and told me that the CCV valve had failed and needed replaced.  However, because the oil was hot they could not fix it today and would need to schedule an appointment for a later time.  I was told that it would be $300 to replace the valve, and $1,000 if the torque converter needed to be replaced, but that may not fix the transmission and they would not know until they had the transmission torn down.

I started looking for transmissions on the internet and calling area transmission shops.  I found PerformaBuilt and compared the parts that you install to the other transmission places I was interested in.  It appeared to me that you were using the same high quality parts as the other transmission shops but the difference was that you were making modifications to allow a person to tow in overdrive.

I called and talked to very friendly and knowledgeable personnel.  After making sure that the transmission was the correct transmission for my vehicle I ordered the transmission.

The transmission was shipped as promised and arrived as expected.  The only thing that did not go perfectly was that the transmission cooler was not shipped with the torque converter and the transmission.

I had the transmission installed and just returned from a 3,500 mile trip (approximately) while pulling a two wheel trailer.

The transmission shifts firmly as I expected and stays locked into overdrive and the torque converter stays locked in.  This is the 3rd transmission in the Suburban, the original which went out with 120,000 miles, it was rebuilt and went over 100,000 miles before I replaced it with the PerfomaBuilt transmission.  I believe the PerformaBuilt transmission stays locked into overdrive and the torque converter stays locked in longer than either the original or the rebuilt transmission.  I know that the shifts are more firm.

When I returned from my trip the transmission cooler had arrived in my absence.  All of my email messages were answered promptly either by return email, phone call or resolving of the questions I had asked.

Admittedly I have less than 4,000 miles on the transmission but currently I would and have recommended PerformaBuilt transmissions to other people who are looking at purchasing a transmission.

Thank you for a good experience.  I hope to never "need" to do business with you again but if I need another transmission I will be looking for you.

Sincerely

performabuilt level 2 4L60E - Awesome.

Picked mine up for 1600 with free shipping,a year warranty, and a cooler. Got here in 3 days. Rated for 700 whp and let me tell you, its perfect. Shifts at WOT are nice and solid, while daily driving it feels just like a stock one. Cant feel it shift at all. Everyone who i talked to at perforabuilt were all great to work with.

If your looking for a great tranny for hardcore performance and good DD'ing, i would reccomend PM'ing performabuilt or visiting their website to see all their trannys.

i got a level 1 tranny and their 9.5 3000 stall in a 4400 pound impala making 380 at the wheels. trans shifts on time and has never missed a shift. also the "no core charge" and "free shipping" and "$50 discount" is true.
